Serving Up Sweetness One Donut at a Time

Robin Goshorn served our nation honorably in the United States Navy before her honorable discharge. Upon her exit from the military, she began working for defense companies where she helped to usher in and refine their systems and processes. Robin always dreamed of someday opening her own restaurant. She never imagined that she would be in the mobile food industry, but fate and her husband intervened.

Ron Goshorn had spent decades in the restaurant industry where he started washing dishes, progressing to burger flipper and eventually General Manager. Ron has worked for some of the most well-known quick service and casual dining restaurants in the business. In his time in these positions, he also learned and managed compliance, food safety, and employee management. Like Robin, Ron envisioned opening and operating their own restaurant someday.

As Robin and Ron contemplated a business of their own, an advertisement for DonutNV popped up on their computer while looking for opportunities in the traditional brick and mortar restaurant space. After first ignoring it, they decided to check it out even though it was opposite of their original plan.

While the Goshorn’s were driven by things like return on Investment (ROI) and the numbers, once they tasted DonutNV’s freshly made mini donuts along with the freshly squeezed lemonade, they were hooked!

What do Robin and Ron love most about DonutNV?

  1. Freedom. They can operate when and where they want in their protected territory.
  2. Meeting people. Every time they operate at an event, they get to meet new people, though they are getting their fair share or repeat customers who have become loyal fans of them and DonutNV!
  3. The straight-forward approach and simplicity of DonutNV.
  4. The backend support and systems that DonutNV provides.
  5. The ability to operate their business from a new and different location every day.
  6. Harmoniously working with other mobile food truck operators.
  7. The ability to give back to the community both in donations and in service.

What advice would they give potential or new DonutNV franchise owners?

  1. Do your homework as it relates to the numbers.
  2. Research things ahead of time like commissaries, potential location restrictions, and permitting needs.
  3. Network-Network-Network! This applies not only to the business community but also to schools, local government officials, and local non-profit organizations.
  4. Support your fellow mobile food truck operators and joint local food groups.
  5. Give back to the community.
  6. Participate in the various DonutNV systems and learning events.
  7. Have a plan of success formulated and ready to go.
  8. Have FUN!

How are the Goshorn’s doing? In addition to having a lot of fun, they are also making significant and profitable “donut dollars” while making an impact in their local community. The next time you are in Florence, Alabama, check out Ron and Robin Goshorn’s DonutNV operation not only to have the world’s best hot and freshly made donuts and freshly squeezed lemonade but to also meet some really great people!
