Native American Flute Player, Russ Jones, Releases New Solo Flute Album
Native American flute player Russ Jones has released his latest album, “At The Edge of Space.” The album features twelve tracks of hauntingly beautiful solo flute music composed and performed by Jones on several different types of flutes. Every composition on the album seems to emanate from the very depths of the artist’s soul and reverberate through time and space in the universal language of music.
Jones is a Utah-based flutist, originally from the mountains of California. With an impressive following, he is well-known for his ability to create music that is both peaceful and emotionally evocative. His music is often described as being “transcendental” and “healing.” “At The Edge of Space” is quite possibly Jones’ most deeply relaxing album to date.
“In creating this album, as I would play the flute, I found that it was taking me to the edges of space and time,” Jones said. “I thought then it was an appropriate name for the album, as it is my hope that the listener will find themselves traveling to the edge of space when listening to this music.”
Russ’ musical journey began with a spiritual trip he took to Mexico in 2011. This is where he purchased his first flute. Jones’ first solo album was recorded in 2014, after which he began to perform at house concerts, New Age festivals, and work as a studio musician for film scores.
As a self-taught flutist, Russ developed a connection with the Native American style flute before growing his musical arsenal and expertise to include flutes from around the world. Jones’ extensive flute collection includes historical Native American flutes, including the Shakuhachi and the Kaval. Russ’ talents eventually expanded into making hand-crafted custom flutes of many different types.
The album, “At The Edge of Space,” is a mystical, meditative journey through vast expanses of time and space, and explores themes of peace, love, and harmony, as well as who and what we are made of both individually and collectively.
